I have a herniated disc in my lower back (L5-S1). Can/Should I do spinning as exercise?

Question by pb335: I have a herniated disc in my lower back (L5-S1). Can/Should I do spinning as exercise?
I've been diagnosed with herniated disc after being in pain for over 8 months. I've been doing step aerobics and cardio workouts and was very active. My doctor told me to stop doing exercises where I have to do lots of running and jumping around. I get bored of yoga, swimming and other slow exercises. Can I keep doing spinning? What would be ok to do considering my condition? Thanks beforehand!!

Best answer:
Hi, I have L1 - S1 herniated. Spinning is a terrible idea. The best excercise is to lay flat on your stomach on the ground and use your arms to push your upper body up. Keep your legs flat on the ground. Purpose is to arch your back and strengthen your muscles that support the disk. Good luck
