Question by Cade: Is yoga for men also?
I am not sure what is technically classified as 'meditation' or yoga but from what I've seen usually it involves people stretching.. or just laying and relaxing with pillows for the most part. I was wondering what is the perception of men doing this? I have been under A LOT of stress, I live with my mom who is older, my sister who is a young adult and my other sister who is just starting school. I'm the only guy and the only other guy in my family is like in middle school.. I don't really have any friends either and I am just hating college because of the above distractions and some additional ones.

So anyway my school offers yoga classes. I was considering it but I am worried they might think I'm gay or something. I have nothing against gays, I'm not homophobic but I am self conscious even when it comes to silly things like this. I am not really in shape either, do you think the class will involve a lot of physical work? Will I have to wear those tight clothing? Also from their perspective if they don't think of me as gay then they're going to think I'm a perv when it comes to partner exercises right?

If there are any guys I'd like to hear your experiences. I just want to do something to help me relax and escape both mentally and physically help my body relax as well. Thanks.

Best answer:
Sure yoga is for everybody. Apart from the description of the course, I think the most important is the teacher, not the contents of the course. So maybe ask to attend just one class to see what it does to you.

I've had some yoga classes in the past and I felt really relaxed afterwards. Exercises were not too physical, but the energy of the teacher was very relaxing and he certainly understood (lived) the message of yoga.

Tight clothing? I don't think so, normally you're free to wear want to want, and usually they advise comfortable clothing. If you are not free, I am sure there is something wrong with the teacher.

If you want a completely effortless technique, you could try Jin Shin Jyutsu, a kind of body mudras. There is a lot of philosophy involved too, and that's the most important, to gain new perceptions. Because thoughts create tissue, and whatever you do, be it yoga, taiji, ... if you don't change perceptions (and actions accordingly), your exercises will be useless in the longer term.

Here is an easy Jin Shin Jyutsu exercise you may try, so you can see if it relaxes you or gives you other benefits. Be patient (don't expect anything to happen) and observe :

Hope this makes things a little clear.
