Question by : Blood issues- low body temperature, low blood pressure, and low heart rate?
I've always had a bit of a low body temp- my "normal" has always been around 96.8 (which screwed me over in grade school- when I'd feel really sick, my temp would go up to 99, but the school nurse would say I'm "perfectly fine" and send me on my way). I used to have normal blood pressure and a really high heart rate in grade school, too, but when I decided to become physically active, my blood pressure dropped (not sure what it is at now, all I know is that it's in the "low" range), and my RHR is now 51 in the morning, and around 60 during the day (57 while I'm typing this right now, according to my HRM). I'm 16, 5'4", 132 lbs, and about 24% body fat, so I'm not really crazy athletic. If it has any effect, I usually do 3-4 hours of cardio exercise a week (tae bo and biking, mostly), light yoga on sundays (and hatha for stretching after cardio), and I strength train briefly (30 mins) 3x/week about. So yeah, I'm active enough, but I'm not crazy athletic. I don't eat really little either- I average around 1800 Calories/day.
I've also had a history of lighteadedness and dizziness, and it's been pretty bad lately. I'm not sure if that's related, but I've had others blame my low blood pressure. I'll start feeling really weak, and then my eyes get fuzzy until it's all black, and I can't stay standing. Usually when I notice I'm getting weaker (happens when I make sudden movements most often) I'll sit down or lean against a wall depending on where I am.
Not only has this been worse and my heart rate decreased, but my body temp is going down too. I've been feeling really hot lately (and using a lot of heat compresses for menstrual cramps), so I took my temperature curiously, and it's down to 96.0 Fahrenheit in one ear and 95.7 in the other (discrepancy normal).
Anyway, what could be the cause of this lowering? As in, is there anything to worry about, or are there any consequences or other symptoms I could develop?
Best answer:
Have you seen a doctor? They give you pills if your blood pressure is too high, they can probably do something if it's too low.
