Yoga Warmups : Till the Sweat Drips Off Your Nose
Article by Eric Mayars
Before playing any kind of sport or before starting your routine exercise, you need to warm up your body. Our body muscles need to be flexible and our body should be ready for various moves or poses practiced at a yoga retreat. This is important because, without warming up your body, if you directly, start practicing some poses or moves, you will not be able to practice it with perfection. Not only this but you will also hurt yourself and injure your body muscles or tissues if not warmed up completely. Before gym exercises, you warm up your body, similarly before yoga asanas as well, you need to warm up your body. Warm up for your ShouldersStand Upright With Your Feet Slightly Apart And Shoulders Relaxed.Keep your hand down straight and lift your shoulders high as much as you can. Repeat this couple of times. Then rotate your arms in wheel movement a couple of times. This will bring flexibility to your shoulder muscles. SquattingThis helps you warm up the hips and thighs. Stand with your feet just slightly apart. Put your hands on your hips and slowly go into a squatting position. Slowly move back to the original position. Repeat this several times.Shake and TwistThis will help your body become more flexible and loosen your stiff muscles. Relax your body by letting the whole body go totally floppy. Shake your limbs. Continue doing it till you can. When you are done, swing your arms loosely forward and backward around your body. Stretch apart your feet and thigh. Repeat this a few times.StretchWhile standing, put your arms straight out in front of you at your chest height. Take a deep breath and exhale slowly. The next move helps you strengthen your spine. It is called the cat move. It revitalizes your body and also helps improve the body posture.
Kneel on all fours. Hands and knees apart. As you inhale, bring your head forward and slightly hollow your back. When you breathe out, arch the back upwards, and let your head drop down, looking at your abdomen.
Repeat this 5-10 times, creating slow movement of the two postures.
These simple moves help you prepare your body for yoga. There are many difficult and complicated moves in yoga and to practice these moves effectively and easily your body must be flexible. Warm up yoga is thus a must to benefit from yoga.
