Question by Confused Guy: what is this problem?
Today I went to a dinner party my team at work hosted for one of my colleagues who is getting married this month. I was utterly uninterested in anything they spoke, except for some small chit chat. This has been the case from quite some time now, around 2 years. Finally it was time to pay the check and I took the check since nobody else was doing so anyway. Somehow everybody was woefully short of money? I paid 50$ for a 15$ meal, and everybody seemed to think they spent for more than what they ate! But really that isn't the point - the point is that I noticed a very important thing - my colleagues gave me currency notes for their payment and I could just not count the notes - no matter what - I was flipping the notes but I just couldn't do any counting.. tried twice and had to pay attention during the third time to finally get it done. Also, this didn't scare me either. It was almost like I've become accustomed to being clumsy and slow and dumb. At work, it's the same. I'm beginning to hear senior colleagues tell me that in 5-6 months I should be showing a lot more achievements. I'm treated shabbily at work, my pay is woefully lesser than what it should be, and I was bullied a lot. I don't know what is happening with me. I don't know if stress has caused me to become so dull or whether it is my incompetence. Till I was 25 years old, I worked in two different companies and was always held in extremely high esteem there, and was loved and respected. I was a brilliant student and always topped in school, pre university and college. I went through a lot of stress during my higher studies between the age of 25 and 26.5. My whole world literally collapsed during that time. Events that I could probably deal with in my own way, I just couldn't deal with any longer. After that it has been steadily downhill. I can't tell if it is asthma or a bad diet or plain fear or something else. Earlier I used to feel extremely angry if someone mistreated me and would achieve something great and prove my worth to myself and shut the offender's mouth. I had a lot of self respect. But now I am least inclined to do any such thing. Have I been brainwashed? I attended the Landmark forum classes just before starting my higher studies, could that have had an effect? Has anyone had similar issues? Any sharing of views would be very much appreciated. And yes I've never had a girlfriend except for a friend who was a girl for a long time and whom I had begun liking but later got to know that she was just playing me (this I got to know during my higher studies). Thanks for reading this long question. I humbly request you to kindly not be rude or thoughtless in your answers. Please attempt to piece together the sequence of events and analyze the situation if you feel inclined to. I've always been kind and caring towards others. I never thought I would face anything like this. I've tried to get up, but am repeatedly slipping and falling. I know things that will improve me but I am unable to keep them going, unfortunately. Yoga, exercise, karate, healthy food, meditation, kindness, compassion, learning a musical instrument, discipline, strictness with oneself, moderation, liberal values, appreciation of the gifts we have, respect for Parents, seniors and fellow humans, respect and recognition for women, bravery, chivalry... I've been thus ever since I can remember and I've had a tough life only made liveable by my loving Parents and God's grace.. but I am having it tough now to maintain some of those.. imbalances have set in.I feel like I'm unable to cope.
Best answer:
Well, that's a ramble, but I'll try.
First, since this is a problem for you, acknowledge it.
Second, I notice from what you've written that you look to external things to confirm yourself, so you'll feel better. For instance, while it's a wonderful achievement to get a blackbelt in the martial arts, this doesn't mean that it will make you feel good about everything in life. Achievements are great, and they help your self-esteem, but if you're mind process is faulty, nothing you achieve will make a difference.
Women? If you meet the greatest woman on Earth, the object of all of your dreams, you will soon find out that she is not a happiness vending machine. You're responsible for your happiness.
You have a preoccupied mind, and that's all. Don't worry about it, You're not stupid or going crazy. The expectations of everyday life are just getting too boring for you. What you have going on internally simply seems more interesting to you.
