A friend of mine swears Bikram yoga will help me lose weight much better than jogging. He basically says Bikram yoga will fix everything including high blood pressure. I'll say "oh, my cat died" and his answer is-"try some Bikram".....kind of annoying. I guess it all depends on how long you do it for each session? Does Bikram(hot) yoga really burn a lot of calories?
Best answer:
Yes, Bikram burns a lot of calories. You will lose weight, but from my experience (practicing and working the desk at a Bikram studio), weight loss happens when you are consistent with your practice: 4 + times a week for more weight loss. Of course, be mindful of what you eat, and give yourself 1 cheat day a week, so you don't feel deprived. You'll lose weight. I have lost lbs and inches by practicing 3 + times a week. Working the front desk, I have seen many people lose a lot of weight. I have also seen how the yoga has helped people lower their blood pressure, asthmatics having to use their inhaler a lot less & it helped one man not have to take insulin as often as he did, before practicing. As for Bikram vs. jogging. They are both great in my opinion. I used to be a runner/jogger. I switched to Bikram b/c I was always getting injured running. Bikram burns the calories while putting less pressure on my body. But jogging will burn a lot of calories and will help you lose weight, as well. It's all a matter of what you like better. Good luck!
