Question by easy rider: The yoga position of tadasana?
I've got a few questions about it:

one of my feet is a few cms shorter than the other, should I have the toes, heels or the centres together?
When you raise your quads and knee-caps should there be a lot of tension in your legs? Or is there a way to do it without tension?
And how do you breathe from your diaphragm, if I put one hand on my stomach and one on my chest it feels like my chest is moving in that position. I normally breathe from my diaphragm.

Best answer:
Even if your feet is few Cm's shorter than the other you should keep toes, heels and the centres
together. Why? because this keeps the centre of gravity closer and when you rise you naturally
tend to fall and only when you are fully concentrated you can raise yourself on your fingers thus
improving your concentration. A little bit of tension does exist when you rise on your fingers with your
hands stretched up. This strengthens your fingers of the feet, the ankles, further it beautifies your
calf muscles, it also stretches your thighs to some extent. No it cannot be done without tension.
Breathing through diaphragm seems difficult specially when your hand is stretched up but with
concentration on your stomach you will definitely get a hang of it though in the beginning you tend
to feel you are breathing through your chest. No need to use your hands instead do it in front of a
mirror to see whether you are doing correctly. Remember in Tadasana hands should be stretched
up above your head. Good luck and God bless. Cheers! :o)
