Question by Dre: How much resting do I need in between workouts?
INFORMATION REGARDING MYSELF: I am 18 years old, female, 5'2, and weigh 135lbs. Over the year I've gained 20lbs, and would like to loose 10-15lbs. Currently I've been working out everyday. My schedule consists of: walking/running 10miles (5 miles, 2x daily), Billy Blanks' This is Tae Bo workout DVD (45minutes cardio), Pilates abs or legs which is anywhere from 10-25 minutes, and I also do some yoga before bed. I've been a vegetarian for 5 years, vegan on and off for the past couple of months. I used to eat a bunch of junk, but these lasts months I've stopped and have lowered my caloric intake to about 1,000 calories.
MY QUESTION IS:
Since I've been working out daily, I've been feeling really sore. Not to the point that I can't work out anymore, just sore. I know that in order to gain muscle your body tears it down or whatever, and you need to rest. SO how long should I rest? Or am I fine with not resting because i'm not really using weights?
Hope that this makes sense. I just really would like to lose this extra weight, or at least to get toned.
Any other tips regarding weight loss would be great!
Best answer:
If you are using free weights, I recommend a two day break between exercising each muscle group. Normally, you can preform aerobic exercise about five times per week. Our mass media empires tend to emphasize exercise for weight loss, but the most important approach is diet and lifestyle.
Maintaining a healthy weight in this toxic American food environment is difficult. Our convenience foods are packed with excess sugar, salt, fat, oils, and food additives like MSG and aspartame. Alcohol and caffeine don't help. If you can avoid processed foods completely, this will help.
Also, the food industry promotes products based upon the fear of protein deficiency. That's nonsense. A bigger risk is excess animal protein, fat, and refined products. According to several nutrition researchers who are highly regarded, no animal protein food products are required for a healthy diet. In fact, the ideal diet for health and weight management is a whole plant based diet.
If you replace animal food based products with a healthy balanced vegetarian menu, you will find that excess weight disappears without having to spend any additional time in the gym. Egg whites, yogurt, fish are totally unnecessary for health and may, in fact, become a health risk.
Learn how to eat a whole plant based diet, and the pounds will vanish. A side benefit is you feel better than you have in many years.
