Is this normal?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Question by : Is this normal?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I'm a 13 year-old girl, 5' 2", and 140 pounds.
I looked at several weight charts, and the Wii Fit. All of them say that I'm extremely overweight.
I decided to start a diet, to lose weight... But it came to my attention that I could not be as overweight as I thought...
Could most of my weight be muscle?!?!
I considered this because of the following:
- most of the time I gain weight after I exercise (usually Yoga)
- I have really strong angles and legs (possibly from ice-skating, roller-blading, and/or horse-back riding
- I don't look like 140 pounds

I do have fat on my thighs and stomach, though.
I think I just need to lose stomach fat, and my thighs.

Is it likely that most of my weight is just muscle?!?!
Thanks! :)

Best answer:
Your Body Mass Index is 25.6 kg/M2 which is at the 90th percentile for age and gender. We do not have BMI 'normals' for children and adolescents. The BMI first came into usage via the National Institutes of Health in 1995. The initial guidelines were for adults of European descent. The idea was to correlate BMI with the future incidence of adverse health events. This was the first time that a person's 'weight' became a useful number. Guidelines are being developed for other ethnicities but we have not been tracking BMIs long enough to establish guidelines for children and adolescents. Less than the 95th percentile is generally considered acceptable. At the 95th percentile and above there is a high likelihood that the adolescent will have a BMI above 30 kg/M2 - meaning obesity - as an adult. At 90th percentile your weight is acceptable but you might keep track of it each year. Your physician will have normograms of BMI for age and gender and that is the easiest way to track your BMI. If you prefer however it is not all that difficult to find these normograms on-line. If I may be of further assistance please let me know. I wish you the very best of health and in all things may God bless.
